It was the moment of the day, week, month, and possibly the year. At a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania last Saturday, former President Donald Trump was shot at in a dangerous assassination attempt. The FBI has continued a thorough investigation in the whole event. Various news sources have now confirmed that one rally participant was killed and two others were critically wounded. The attempted shooter was also quickly taken down by secret service soon after the bullets were fired.
Trump’s ear was grazed with one of the three bullets fired by the attempted assassin, before law enforcement responded immediately with their own response. As secret service agents toppled over Mr. Trump, trying to save the Republican nominee from further harm, rally attendees took cover. A scene that froze in horror. When the action was all said and done, Trump began leaving the scene, bloodied from the right side of his face.
Chants of “USA” broke out as Trump held out his fist in defiance. He was finally led away from the scene, putting a shaky conclusion to what had been a wild few minutes.
Controversies have swirled dramatically in the aftermath of the shooting. Witnesses have approached authorities, saying that they saw the gunman on the roof of a nearby building two minutes before he unleashed gunfire. Secret service was relayed this information but failed to address the situation, leading to what could have been an absolute disaster. The secret service director is under heavy heat right now due to failed precautions. More people are skeptical of this being a staged act to give Trump a boost before the elections. A long shot for many.
It will be fascinating to see the ultimate response that the nation will take as a whole after this scary event.
