When India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited to the United States to talk with his United States counterpart in Joe Biden, the world stopped and stared. Modi, who has been heavily criticized throughout the international community due to his lack of promoting democratic ideals, claimed that the meeting with President Biden was successful in making sure that the two nations’ relationship remained strong. However, there are still doubts about the future ahead.
Modi firmly reassured America and company that democracy is “in India’s DNA”, a statement that may be too good to be true. Into the turn of the new century, India has continued to show heavy oppression to their minority groups, with the remnants of the caste system still very much in effect. Non-Hindus especially face the greatest burden in assimilating into society. While Modi insists that his policies forbid these levels of persecution, they still exist everywhere in India.
Unlike Biden, Modi claims to dedicate just four hours of sleep every night due to the extreme efforts of making sure his country is secure and sound. He never married or had a family, a stark contrast from many world leaders today.
Regardless, the negotiations that India and the United States have promised show signs of positivity, despite the fact that no one truly knows how far this will actually go. The nations have shown strides of commitment in a various assortment of topics, such as telecommunications and artificial intelligence. Modi also pledged to sign the Artemis Accords, a plan that will ensure the safe and peaceful exploration of the moon and space beyond. Perhaps a sign of hope? Only time will tell.
