After 27 years of being the leader for Amazon, Jeff Bezos will finally pass his baton. Starting on Monday, July 5th, Bezos will become the new executive chairman, having a more leisure schedule of managing the company. Being the sole founder of a massive company, his wealth skyrocketed over the last three decades, becoming the richest man on the planet by surpassing notable billionaires such as Elon Musk and Bill Gates.
The fifty-seven-year-old will not be dormant for the rest of his life, however. Bezos has been highly active in the space industry and plans to launch himself to space via a rocket manned by another Bezos-owned company: Blue Origin. Along with his brother, an “anonymous bidder”, who bought the spaceflight seat for 28 million dollars, and an unidentified fourth member, the quartet will fly just past Earth’s grasping orbit. The members are planning to be in zero-gravity for approximately three minutes before coming back down to safety. Bezos is attempting to pursue “suborbital tourism”, or space travel for commercial use.
The flight is set for July 20th. According to CNBC, Blue Orbit has had over a dozen successful test runs, therefore the safety measures are immensely secure. Also, the trip will have no crew flying the ship and instead be launched and controlled on the ground.
Along with his space adventures, Jeff Bezos will also participate in more philanthropic activities, as stated by the Wall Street Journal. Recently divorced wife Mackenzie Scott has made headlines by giving away lots of money from her fortune toward charities. Bezos should be eager to try and help America’s ongoing poverty crisis, along with other misfortunes caused by the pandemic.
Regardless of what Bezos does, his legacy will be remembered forever. A random start-up founded in a Seattle garage in 1994 has turned into a blockbuster company made for the rigors of technological and international shipping. His bright ideas and masterful thinking made the world a better place while making him pretty rich as a bonus.
