In a surprise attack straight into the heart of Israel, Palestine militants swiftly fired projectiles, stormed cities, and kidnapped both Israeli soldiers and civilians alike. Netanyahu, the newly elected Israeli Prime Minister, has declared that “the State of Israel has been at war” since this morning. So what’s next?
The states of Palestine and Israel have been at war for the greater part of a century, since the latter’s founding shortly after the conclusion of World War II. Since then, the two sides have been battling each other throughout various minor conflicts, keeping each other on their toes. In May of 2021, surface-to-air missiles pierced the Gaza Strip air, sparking new life into this already deadly rivalry. (To see TheOklahomanTeen’s response to this incident, see the end of the article). This escalation of attacks however, is the closest we have ever seen Israel and Palestine break out into large-scale conflict.
As reported by the New York Times, both sides have since retaliated onto each other. After Palestine’s original attack by Hamas (a prominent military organization in the nation), Israel has since responded with multiple missile and bombing attacks of their own, adding to the deadly destruction. The world waits tensely for the next turn of events in this horrific news story gripping the international community.
