On Friday night, devastating tornado storms ripped through mainly Kentucky, displacing several hundreds of civilians as well as ending the lives of 90+ people. President Joe Biden stated in his Saturday afternoon speech in Delaware that the tornado outbreak was “one of the largest… in our history”. Biden is determined to give as much aid as he possibly can to each of the states that were hit.
While Kentucky received heavy blows, states such as Arkansas, Illinois, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee were hit by the outbreak. Kentucky governor Andy Beshear quoted that “the level of devastation is unlike anything I have ever seen,” and has dubbed the event as “the most devastating tornado event in Kentucky history”.
80+ people have died in Kentucky, with the toll expected to rise substantially. At least four civilians have perished in Tennessee, Arkansas and Missouri each have had one death, and six have died in Illinois following an Amazon warehouse crashing down onto itself. Officials have now changed their motive from search-and-rescue to recovery. The probability of anyone surviving the crash is second to none.
It is at these times that America must come together as one and remain strong together. Tragedies like this should increase our sense of unity and resolve our differences. We will walk through pain together.
